Individual Counselling

At Foundations Counselling we provide counselling to young people and adults seeking help with a wide variety of concerns. We use a variety of approaches, including a cognitive behavioural and strength-based approach with our clients. At Foundations, we believe that as we change the way we look at things, the things we look at will change. We empower our clients to make meaningful shifts in their lives to feel more fulfilled and guide them along the challenging but achievable transformation process. We use a variety of approaches, including cognitive behavioural, internal family systems and strength-based approaches with our clients.

Couples Counselling

We provide counselling to couples facing challenges in their relationship. Using evidence-based couples therapy approaches, including the Gottman Method and Emotionally-Focused Therapy. We work with clients to recognize their strengths and better manage or reconcile troublesome differences and repeating distress patterns. We work with couples of all orientations.

Parenting / Family Counselling

We treat young people and families facing a range of struggles. We use a variety of therapies specifically designed to engage young people, including verbal and expressive play, art, journaling, role-playing and games. We also use age-appropriate cognitive behavioural techniques in our work. At Foundations, we believe that when a young person is struggling emotionally and exhibiting behavioural challenges, we must work with the parents/caregivers and the young person to work towards change. In working with parents and families, we help discover strengths and aid in shifting patterns that are not currently working. We get to know the family and their internal culture to develop an effective treatment plan with meaningful goals. This involves getting a sense of family strengths, values and history. Effective communication in a family unit is often challenging. At Foundations, we can help your family get on track and re-discover its potential.

Clinical Supervision

We provide clinical supervision and case consultation to therapists looking for support and aiming to continue the learning process in their work. Part of being a great therapist is being a life-long learner both in theory and practice. Engaging in regular clinical supervision will allow you to discover your blind spots and ensure you bring your best self to your clients.

We work with therapists in all different stages of their careers: new graduate, mid-career, starting a private practice, in community mental health. We are here to mentor, provide alternative views to a clinical presentation, challenge blind spots, and explore any issues between the client and therapist that may be getting in the way of progress.
