MSW, RSW | Registered Social Worker | Associate
Jen is a Registered Social Worker with 25 years of experience working with individuals, youth, and families. Jen received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree of Social Work with a clinical counselling/mental health focus from the University of Fraser Valley. She has training in Trauma Sensitive Practice, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Anti-oppressive Feminist Practice, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Developmental and Attachment Parenting Education.
Jen’s journey to become a social worker started with overcoming significant loss and tragedy, inspiring her to work with youth in the foster care system. As a youth worker and an advocate early in her career, she learned the importance of considering the relationships and systems that contribute to adversity. Over the years, Jen realized that people could create meaningful changes when provided with compassion, safety and tools. Supporting people through challenging life transitions, family relationships, and parenting experiences have been the main focus in Jen’s career. She has worked in government, health and non-profit as a social worker, as a group facilitator, a parent educator, a reproductive mental health clinician and as a program manager. Jen’s core belief regarding counselling is that each individual is the expert in their own life. The counsellor’s role is to walk alongside each person in uncovering and actualizing their strengths, wisdom, and resiliency. Jen believes each person is unique, and their experiences of distress and healing must be honoured and understood. She is warm and caring and an expert at creating safe spaces free of judgment to explore and make meaning of hurt, distress and uncertainty. Jen invites clients to actively participate in counselling to develop relevant goals and engage in meaningful growth.
Jen is based out of Surrey and is offering online sessions at this time. In her spare time, Jen can be found at a sports field cheering on her sons. Jen also enjoys staying fit while enjoying the beautiful outdoors or finding comfort in reading a book.
