Relationship/Couples Counselling

"Successful long-term relationships are created through small words, small gestures, and small acts."

– John Gottman

Does Our Relationship Need Therapy?

All relationships could benefit from seeing a therapist! While it’s difficult to overlook our own internal biases about our relationships with a partner, evaluating a relationship through your own lens can make communication a barrier.

Here are some challenges you may be experiencing in your relationship that would benefit from working with a couples therapist:

  • Difficulties with having conversations about small disagreements without a larger disagreement occurring
  • A decrease in intimacy with your partner
  • An increase in conflicts, or conflicts that are left unresolved
  • Resentment about routine daily tasks that are typically not an issue
  • A breach of trust from one or both partners

How Will Our Relationship Benefit?

The relationship therapists at Foundations Counselling help you and your partner thrive in your relationship through accepting and embracing each other’s uniqueness and approaching conflicts from the perspective of love and empathy rather than anger and hurt.

Therapy is intended to be a safe space where couples can be open and honest about their concerns, insecurities and barriers. Your therapist will provide an unbiased lens and ensure that both partners are heard. Together, with your therapist, you will develop and agree to a detailed plan to make sure both partners continue to feel seen, loved, and understood outside of our office.

We know couples therapy has a stigma for being the first signs of the end of a relationship, however it’s been shown that putting in a true effort in empowering each other to work on the relationship allows relationships to succeed.
