The Foundations Story

Effective Therapies from the Ground Up

Danielle Veldhuis is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and owner of Foundations Counselling located in Vancouver, British Columbia. Danielle studied at Simon Fraser University obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. After several years of helping at-risk children and youth at Options: Services to Communities Society in Surrey, BC, she went on to obtain her Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology at City University's Vancouver Campus.

Early in her career Danielle had a special interest in childhood self-esteem and mentoring, completing her Master's Thesis on caregiver/parental modelling of positive body image. Related to this, she is now on the Board of Directors for Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland, which facilitates relationships that inspire and empower girls to reach their potential -- a cause that is near and dear to her heart.

Danielle has worked with children, adults and families throughout her career at Options: Services to Communities Society, at Child and Youth Mental Health with the Provincial Government as a family therapist, and as a Clinical Counsellor at Jericho Counselling in Vancouver, BC.

Danielle is known as a warm and compassionate person that puts clients at ease and allows them to feel safe to open up. She believes strongly in people's ability to change and grow and feels honored to guide her clients through this process. Collaboration and communication is incredibly important to Danielle in her work with clients. With permission, she strives to collaborate with schools, doctors, and other professionals involved providing the most well rounded care to her clients. Given the uniqueness of each individual and the challenges they are facing, Danielle tailors clinical interventions based on the presenting problem. This fits with the holistic approach that informs Danielle's work.

Danielle is originally from Prince George, BC and has been living in the Lower Mainland since 1995. She spends her spare time with her daughter and husband, running, doing yoga, skiing, reading and enjoying the company of her cherished friends and family.
