Zafrin Alam is a Registered Clinical Counsellor based in Vancouver, BC. She holds a Master’s degree in Education in School Counseling from City University of Seattle, as well as Bachelor’s degrees in Education from the University of British Columbia and Arts from Simon Fraser University. In addition to her work at Foundations Counselling, Zafrin is also a high school counsellor.
Zafrin works with youth, adults, and couples. Warm and relationship-focused, she strives to create a space where clients feel safe, understood, and genuinely cared for. Her approach is person-centered, emotionally focused, and grounded in family systems thinking. She is trained in the Gottman Method (Level 1), suicide prevention, and crisis intervention.
Before becoming a counsellor, Zafrin taught English and Physical Education to students from kindergarten through grade twelve, both locally and overseas. Her years in the classroom deepened her passion for emotional wellness and supporting individuals navigating identity, self-esteem, and belonging.
As a second-generation Bengali Canadian, Zafrin brings a lived understanding of cultural identity and the challenges that come with finding a sense of place. She encourages clients to embrace their uniqueness and view their differences as strengths. She supports people of all ages through life transitions, anxiety, depression, stress, and relationship concerns.
Outside of her counselling work, Zafrin loves connecting with others, enjoying good coffee, and exploring new parts of the world. She has lived and taught in Sweden and has visited 18 countries—so far.
